Sometimes only a good story can change the Nation’s conversation.
chapter 9
“So dangerous a path, yet no one remembered the compass and true north. You’re charting your voyage using the stars to calculate lines on an imaginary treasure map. But you’re in a cloudy sky where there is no light, not even the moon, to show you the way.”
Trump was determined to leave his legacy with the promise to create a Federal law to end abortion. He bragged that he ended Roe vs. Wade to crowds when he spoke to audiences in sports arenas. Even after the election, Trump’s favorite public audiences were crowds of people chanting his name in large stadiums.
Trump decided to create a Supreme Court that would establish a Nation without abortion. He put his Chief of Staff in charge of finding and vetting five new candidates for the Supreme Court.
One evening after work Don Jr. met an old buddy from college, Mitchel Rand, who went to law school, but never was able to pass the bar. Don Jr. needed help finding some conservative judges for his Dad to appoint to expand the Supreme Court. He asked his friend, Mitchel, to recommend the best, most conservative Republican judge that he knew. This judge must be an excellent candidate for the Supreme Court. His friend provided the name of Jonah Levine, a judge appointed to the Texas Federal District Court by Trump during his first administration.
Don Jr. met Jonah one afternoon in a D.C. pub. They sat in a booth and they discussed a variety of topics–baseball, football, wild game hunting and his reflections on women’s health. After a half hour of friendly discourse, Don Jr. asked Jonah how he felt about abortion. It was important to the President that each new judge was committed to creating a Federal anti-abortion law. The President would insist that each candidate sign a private promise to the President that they would be amenable to his request.
Jonah agreed. Without question, he wanted abortion to be a thing of the past. “It’s what a godly man would hope for the world.” Don Jr. was impressed at his own smarts in finding one of the five judges already. So before the afternoon interview was over, Don Jr. asked Jonah if he had a recommendation for four other Federal or State judges that he would choose to work with as a fellow member on the Supreme Court. All prospective judges must support an anti-abortion law. Jonah called Don Jr. the next day with four other names of judges that he would like to work with as fellow judges on the SCOTUS. All, Jonah promised, would support a National anti-abortion law.
Trump met with all five judges together in the Oval office. They sat in a comfortable arrangement. The couch and chairs were gathered around the President’s desk so that he could speak to each one and to all at once. Meetings with Trump at his desk made him feel superior–stronger at the desk where so many great Presidents had made decisions that changed our leadership in the World. All the judges signed a secret agreement that afternoon that they would change the laws to create a Federal anti-abortion law. All they needed now was the perfect case to be heard before the SCOTUS.
Trump was satisfied that these five candidates were his judges. Now he was in control of the legislature, the Justice Department, the FBI and CIA, and the crowning trophy– majority control of the SCOTUS. Afterall, Trump would now have eight judges that he appointed and were confirmed. Trump knew that since two of the existing (very old) Supreme Court judges (whom he had pardoned for tax fraud) would also follow his directive, he expected that the other conservative Trump appointed judges would also support such a Federal anti-abortion law.
To expedite their seating, Trump excused the Senate from the chore of vetting these five judges and told the Senate that their approval was not necessary–saved time and the Country’s budget–all those hours of questions and digging through history. The new judges were announced to the populace within three weeks of Don Jr.’s original hunt.
Trump was so pleased with Don Jr’s success in vetting five new judges, that he gave him some time off to go hunting in tropical Asia. Don Jr., with his guide’s assistance, shot a female bengal tiger and used her skin as a rug for his father to display in the Oval office.
Jonah Levine, one of the five new judges Trump later learned was a gay man with a husband and two children. Helped by Don Jr.’s invitation, he provided four female judges names who Trump also appointed to the SCOTUS: one Asian American woman, one African American woman and two Caucasian women. Two of the women were Lesbians who did not hide these facts, if asked. Each was married to a wife. One had two children. She was a single mother.
All five had been friends and had either met in law school or were introduced through work. All five were considered conservative judges with an inherent desire to create a Federal anti-abortion stance. All five believed fervently in equality, respect for diversity and all five applauded the opportunity to create a Federal law that would end abortion.
